Why Not Consider La Manga In Spain For Your Retirement Home?

If you are coming up to retirement age you may well have considered moving abroad to Spain. After all, it is known as “Sunny Spain” and is a great place to live out the rest of your years. Comfortable temperatures all year round and 320 days a year of sunshine – or thereabouts – what’s not to like? You don’t need a winter coat and wellies here! It makes a big change from the North of England, or for that matter Scotland, Wales, and Ireland.

One place in Spain that you might like to consider is La Manga. This quite literally means “sleeve” in Spanish and is a strip of land that is 21 km long and just 300 metres wide, separating the Mediterranean from the Mar Menor which is a large saltwater lagoon. Until the 1960’s it had barely any human activity with just a couple of windmills and archaeological remains showing that humans had been around there for thousands of years.

Then developers started to build high rise blocks on La Manga and within a couple of decades it had become a mecca for tourists seeking the sun. It now has about 19,000 residents, and you could do a lot worse than to join them. With all of the development that has been going on, there are plenty of apartments for sale in La Manga and of course they are all pretty new, so have the very latest facilities. Many have access to pools, gyms, and so on, although if you are of retirement age you probably won’t want to go to the gym! However, if you are looking for an overseas property investment then it would make sense, since the many tourists who come here would love to use facilities such as that. Your apartment would be fully booked for most of the year.

There is a plethora of bars and restaurants in La Manga, along with shopping centres, and beaches offering lots of water sports, and there are also three marinas providing moorings for upwards of 2,000 boats, so there is plenty of room for your private yacht.
